Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has announced the launch of a new dashboard aimed at helping residents monitor water supply interruptions and repair efforts in their areas. The initiative seeks to improve transparency and keep the public informed as the province addresses ongoing water challenges.
Lesufi highlighted that illegal water connections and leakages are among Gauteng’s primary issues, adding to strain on the water supply. To combat these challenges, the province will assemble a team of law enforcement agencies dedicated to disconnecting all illegal water connections.
Speaking at a media briefing in Johannesburg, Lesufi emphasized the urgency of the situation: “Gauteng is facing a potential water crisis. I’ve assumed the role of chair of the intergovernmental task force, working alongside the Minister of Water and Sanitation to prevent this crisis. We have already convened a meeting and held a water summit to address these issues.”
The dashboard launch marks an essential step in efforts to stabilize Gauteng’s water resources and engage residents in water conservation.
