The South African Weather Service has issued a heavy thunderstorm warning for several areas in KwaZulu-Natal, including Ladysmith, Newcastle, Bergville, and Winterton. Other regions such as Dannhauser and eDumbe are also expected to be affected.
Forecaster Thandiwe Gumede warned that excessive lightning, strong winds, and hail are anticipated to hit the province's north-western areas from the afternoon, with a Level 2 alert in place. "Avoid being outdoors during this time, and exercise caution if driving as visibility may be significantly reduced," Gumede advised.
She urged motorists, residents, and livestock owners to take the warning seriously. "Move your livestock to safer areas to protect them from potential lightning strikes and flying debris caused by the strong winds," she added.
The public is encouraged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions as the severe weather approaches.
