Mourners are arriving in Gqathula for the funeral service of Ruth King, one of the 18 victims gunned down in Ngobozana village, Lusikisiki, Eastern Cape, last month. The 21-year-old is the first to be laid to rest following the tragic incidents.
Local ward councillor Mpofane Tenyane expressed relief that a suspect has been arrested in connection with the murders. “I can safely say that as a government, we were prepared for a mass funeral. However, after discussions with the families, they decided on a memorial service to honor all the victims. We are grateful that Ruth's funeral is taking place with the suspect in custody,” Tenyane stated.
