As the nation honors 42 freedom fighters who lost their lives in exile, the ANC Veterans League expressed hope that today's ceremony will provide closure for their families. "People should know where we come from and understand that the democracy we enjoy today was achieved through sacrifice," stated chairperson Snuki Zikalala.

President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to officiate the restitution homecoming ceremony in Tshwane on Friday morning. This week, the remains of the liberation fighters were repatriated from Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Zikalala emphasized the significance of this event for South Africans and the families of those who fought for liberation. "We witnessed the emotional weight of this moment, and families are relieved to finally give their loved ones a dignified burial," he said. "Many families were uncertain about what happened to their loved ones, so this ceremony brings them a sense of closure."
