Durban Businessman Thoshan Panday Arrested for Alleged Tax Fraud

Durban businessman Thoshan Panday was arrested for alleged tax fraud and is set to remain in custody over the weekend. He faces charges related to false tax returns for 2010 and 2011, which reportedly caused SARS to lose over R7 million. Panday appeared in the Durban Magistrate's Court on Thursday, facing 27 counts of violating tax legislation. The State plans to oppose his bail, with his next court appearance set for Monday. Panday is also facing charges related to a multi-million rand SAPS tender for the 2010 Soccer World Cup.
