In a devastating accident in Emakhazeni Local Municipality, Mpumalanga, six children lost their lives when a bus collided with a train on Wednesday afternoon. The bus was carrying 30 students from Môrelig Primary School at the time of the incident.

According to Mmusi Moeti, spokesperson for Community Safety in the province, the crash occurred when the bus crossed a railway track at Mafube Village and ended up in the path of an oncoming train. Early reports suggest that human error may have played a role in the accident, though the investigation is still ongoing.

"While we do not want to prejudice the ongoing investigation, human error cannot be entirely ruled out," Moeti stated. Over 10 children sustained injuries in the crash, and the bus driver suffered only minor injuries. Fortunately, the train driver was unharmed.

Moeti emphasized the importance of accountability in preventing future tragedies. "We believe that holding those responsible accountable will help prevent such heart-wrenching incidents in the future," he said.
