Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane is set to attend the concluding day of disciplinary proceedings at the Pretoria High School for Girls on Wednesday. This follows serious allegations of suspected racism that led to the suspension of 12 students.
On the first day of the proceedings, Tuesday, the department acted decisively by removing eight of the twelve suspended learners, who held prefect positions, from their leadership roles.
Chiloane has also announced that the school’s principal has been suspended for three months, pending the results of an ongoing investigation. "The principal was aware of this issue since last year, 2023. There was a report, yet no action was taken at that time," Chiloane said. "You were aware of the seriousness of the situation and chose to ignore it."
Chiloane expressed concern for the matriculants involved but assured that a support program would be implemented to assist them. "While we are mindful of the impact on the matriculants, it is crucial that students understand that their actions have consequences," Chiloane added.
