Suspect to Appear in Court for Rape and Murder in Limpopo

A suspect is scheduled to appear in the Mahwelereng Magistrate’s Court in Limpopo this morning, facing charges related to the rape of two teenage girls and the murder of one of them in Ga-Mokaba village, near Mokopane.

The two victims, aged 13 and 17, were hitchhiking when they were picked up by an unidentified driver at Moshate Cross. After dropping them off near the Tshamahansi taxi rank, the suspect allegedly returned, brandishing a sharp object, and forced them back into the vehicle.

According to police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba, the suspect is accused of raping both girls and subsequently strangling one of them. He is described as a repeat sex offender. The suspect was apprehended, and the vehicle used in the crime was seized during the arrest.

Limpopo Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, praised the swift and coordinated response of the police team, stating, “The quick response and coordinated efforts of this team led to the suspect's arrest within a short space of time, demonstrating the dedication and commitment of our officers to bringing justice to the victims and their families.”
