The initial cost estimates for the destructive storms in KwaZulu-Natal exceed R 1.3 billion as relief and recovery operations persist.

Following devastating storms in six district municipalities of KwaZulu-Natal, relief efforts are ongoing with estimated damages exceeding R1.3 billion province-wide. eThekwini Metro alone accounts for over R480 million in damages, with over 7,000 households affected. Schools, roads, bridges, community halls, and electricity infrastructure have been severely impacted. Government, social partners, and private donors have been actively assisting victims since the storms struck last Tuesday, providing building materials, identity document assistance, and social relief services. KwaZulu-Natal Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube commends the collaborative efforts in providing assistance to affected families. Minister Thembi Nkadimeng will conduct an oversight visit to assess relief efforts, particularly in uThongathi, accompanied by MEC Bongiwe Sithole-Moloi and eThekwini Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda.
