Elon Musk, billionaire CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, and X, stated on Monday that he would prohibit Apple devices at his companies if Apple incorporates OpenAI at the operating system level, deeming it an unacceptable security breach. He added that visitors would have to leave their Apple devices at the door, stored in a Faraday cage. Apple and OpenAI did not immediately respond to Reuters' requests for comment. Earlier, Apple had announced AI features and a partnership with OpenAI to bring ChatGPT technology to its devices, emphasizing privacy in their AI development. Musk criticized Apple's reliance on OpenAI, questioning their ability to ensure security and privacy. However, Ben Bajarin, CEO of Creative Strategies, suggested that Musk's stance was unlikely to be followed, noting Apple's efforts to educate users on the security of private cloud storage. Musk had previously sued OpenAI and its CEO, Sam Altman, alleging a deviation from the startup's original mission for altruistic AI development. Additionally, Musk founded xAI to rival OpenAI and develop an alternative to ChatGPT, with xAI valued at $24 billion in its latest funding round.
