Traffic authorities in the Little Karoo have announced that the Meiringspoort Pass, which connects Oudtshoorn to Beaufort West in the Central Karoo, will remain closed until further notice due to extensive construction work.
Major repairs are being conducted, including rebuilding sections of the road and addressing hazardous ditches formed along the riverbanks.
These conditions pose a serious danger to motorists, necessitating the closure.
Additionally, the Swartberg Pass remains closed due to poor road conditions. These passes and other roads in and around Oudtshoorn were closed last week due to heavy rains, flooding, and rockfalls.
Cleanup operations will continue throughout this week.
