Ekurhuleni Police arrest 28-Year-old woman for assaulting pregnant neighbor

The Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department has apprehended a 28-year-old woman on assault charges after a pregnant woman was severely assaulted during an argument. According to Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa, spokesperson for the department, the incident occurred in Daveyton.

"On Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at 2:30 pm, officers from the Bromberg precinct intercepted the 28-year-old suspect for assault in the Daveyton area," said Thepa. "It is alleged that on Sunday afternoon, the complainant and her sister were relaxing when their neighbor joined them for drinks."

"During the conversation, a question posed by the complainant's sister sparked a confrontation and argument with the neighbor," Thepa continued. "As the complainant tried to intervene, the suspect became physical, hitting the pregnant woman with a beer bottle on the stomach."

"The assault continued as the suspect used a steel pipe to inflict further injuries. However, the victim managed to escape and reported the incident at Daveyton police station, leading to the arrest of the suspect," Thepa added.

The 28-year-old woman is expected to appear in Daveyton Magistrate’s Court soon. In a separate incident, a 28-year-old man was arrested for allegedly assaulting his mother and sister at their family home in Daveyton, according to reports.
