KZN police report that two suspects, believed to have hijacked a vehicle in Malvern, were shot dead by officers in Durban following a high-speed chase in Wentworth on Thursday.
According to the province's police spokesperson, Robert Netshiunda, authorities were tracking a vehicle suspected of involvement in local crimes. When officers spotted the vehicle on Tara Road, they attempted to stop it.
"The occupants of the vehicle ignored police orders and accelerated, initiating a high-speed pursuit that resulted in a pedestrian being injured after being struck by the suspects' vehicle," Netshiunda explained.
"During the chase, the suspects fired shots at the police, prompting officers to return fire. Despite a police vehicle crashing onto a railway track, officers continued the pursuit on foot until the suspects' vehicle came to a stop after crashing as well.
"Two unidentified suspects were found dead outside the vehicle," Netshiunda stated.
