A Pietermaritzburg man is set to appear in court on Friday, facing charges of culpable homicide and negligent driving. The incident occurred on Church Street in Pietermaritzburg on Thursday when a mother and her six-month-old baby were struck by a vehicle.
Tragically, the child died, while the mother sustained injuries. Provincial police spokesperson Thenjiswa Ngcobo stated, "Police in Pietermaritzburg arrested a 21-year-old man for drunk driving as well as reckless driving. A mother and her baby were knocked by a vehicle. The mother was taken to the hospital for medical attention. The suspect will appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court."
