IPSS Medical Rescue and IPSS Search and Rescue were at the scene in Salt Rock on Wednesday, where a contractor carrying out repairs has drowned.
According to reports from the scene, the man was working in a trench when a water pipe burst, causing the trench to collapse. He was buried waist-deep in sand and the trench filled up with water, preventing his escape. Despite efforts from colleagues, he couldn't be rescued.
Paramedics from IPSS Medical Rescue and members of IPSS Search and Rescue, along with the Kwadukuza Fire Department and CERT Tongaat, worked to free the man, but sadly, he was declared deceased on the scene.
