A worker from eThekwini Municipality was discovered dead inside municipality premises

Durban police are investigating a murder case following the shooting death of a municipal worker on Tuesday evening.

According to KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Robert Nethshiunda, Sydenham police have opened a murder case after discovering the body of a man on Electron Road in Springfield. Nethshiunda stated, "Police responded to reports of a shooting, and upon arrival at the scene, the deceased was found lying dead inside municipality premises with multiple gunshot wounds."

The suspects are currently unknown, and the motive for the killing has not been established.

eThekwini Municipality spokesperson Gugu Sisilana deferred commenting on the incident to the SAPS, stating that they are the authorized body to address criminal incidents. In a separate incident in January, a woman working for the Durban Solid Waste department was shot dead in Berea, Durban, while on duty.

Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda expressed deep sadness and urged law enforcement authorities to find the perpetrators.

Emergency services ALS Paramedics responded to the shooting around 9 pm. Paramedics found the female victim, believed to be in her forties, with multiple gunshot wounds. Unfortunately, she was declared deceased on the scene.
