Armed Robbers Target Joggers and Broken-Down Vehicle in Palmview, KZN

Two joggers and the driver of a broken-down vehicle were robbed by three armed men between Ottawa and Palmview in KwaZulu-Natal at 09:02 on Wednesday. A 56-year-old man suffered a heart attack upon arrival at the scene.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) responded to calls of the robbery and dispatched officers to the R102 between Ottawa and Palmview. While en route, the Phoenix Operations Center informed officers of an unknown person suffering a cardiac arrest. Paramedics rushed to the scene and stabilized an adult male seated in the back seat of a white Isuzu bakkie before transporting him to a local hospital.

Upon interviewing the victims, it was determined that three armed men had accosted and robbed them of valuables on the southbound lane. The suspects also attacked and robbed the driver of a blue bakkie on the northbound lane.

Minutes later, a white Isuzu bakkie and its occupants arrived to assist with repairing the blue bakkie. Upon realizing the robbery, one of the occupants suffered a heart attack.

The joggers informed officers that they were training for the 2024 Comrades Marathon and believed they were targeted for their expensive sneakers and specialized sports watches.
