Two students have been hospitalized following a school bus fire on the R80 Mabopane freeway in Pretoria North.

More than sixty students were able to evacuate the bus just before firefighters and other emergency responders arrived at the scene this afternoon.

The fire has been extinguished, and traffic has been redirected.

According to Tshwane Emergency Services spokesperson Charles Mabaso, the cause of the fire is under investigation.

"All 62 passengers on the bus were found outside when emergency services arrived. Two female students were taken to a nearby hospital, specifically the first military hospital, by a private ambulance."
