KZN political parties assert that local government must be held responsible for addressing the challenges faced by the province's homeless population. Representatives from the DA, EFF, IFP, and MK engaged in a dialogue in Durban to gather feedback from the homeless community ahead of next month's elections.

Key issues raised by those living on the streets included difficulties accessing IDs and the ongoing struggle to have their voices heard.

Mmabatho Thembe of the DA expressed frustration, stating that despite discussions about homelessness, no tangible action has been taken.

"There has been no assistance provided to the homeless individuals, and I believe it's time for governing parties and the City to take responsibility. Task teams need to be established, and conversations need to be initiated."
