The municipality has emphasized the need to increase water reserves in its reservoirs and has urged residents and businesses to use water sparingly for the time being.
According to the municipality, the demand for Reservoir Two at uMngeni-uThukela's Durban Heights Treatment Works exceeds its supply significantly. As a result, some areas north of Durban are experiencing either no running water or intermittent supply.
Affected areas include La Lucia, Umgeni Park, Umhlanga, and Virginia. The eThekwini municipality stated that the outlets were closed on Wednesday night.
Monitoring teams are in place, and they will reopen the outlets once the reservoirs reach appropriate levels.
