Today marks the deadline for former President Jacob Zuma and the MK Party to submit their answering affidavits at the Constitutional Court in response to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).

The IEC brought the matter to the Apex Court after the Electoral Court allowed Zuma to participate in next month's general elections.

Originally, the IEC disqualified Zuma from contesting the elections due to his 15-month sentence for contempt of court. According to the law, candidates sentenced to more than 12 months' imprisonment without the option of a fine are ineligible to stand for office.
