Johannesburg Water has advised residents in the western parts of Johannesburg to use water responsibly. This advice follows the detection of a significant increase in water usage in areas supplied by the Doornkop North meter, such as Doornkop, Tshepisong, Slovoville, and Matholesville.

Nombuso Shabalala, spokesperson for Johannesburg Water, attributed the high consumption to illegal connections and leaks on properties, particularly within informal settlements. She stated, "The high consumption is primarily due to illegal connections and on-property leaks, especially within informal settlements. The continued high consumption adversely affects other neighborhoods in these supply zones, including Dobsonville and Protea Glen."
