The Health Department in KwaZulu-Natal reports an increase in pink eye cases across the province and has ensured clinics are stocked with medication. As of Thursday morning, conjunctivitis infections in KZN have reached 20,781, with the majority of cases in eThekwini.

Provincial Health HOD Dr. Sandile Tshabalala emphasizes the importance of seeking medical advice promptly when experiencing symptoms. He urges individuals to visit the nearest clinic for assessment and treatment, highlighting the availability of medication for various causes of conjunctivitis.

Tshabalala also advises caution during large gatherings, especially over the Easter weekend, as there is a risk of infection spread through close contact and airborne transmission. The provincial government has intensified campaigns to educate the public on preventing bacterial infection transmission.
