The Durban Magistrate’s Court was informed about the connection of the five murder suspects of rapper Kieran ‘AKA’ Forbes and his friend Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane to the crime through various evidence sources. These include cellphone records, vehicle tracking data, CCTV footage, and ballistic evidence.

Detective Bob Pillay from the police’s Organised Crime Unit detailed in a sworn affidavit how the car used by the gunmen to escape the scene of the shooting in Durban last year was recovered two months later during an investigation into another murder case.

State Prosecutor Advocate Lawrence Gcaba presented the affidavit, stating, “During the investigation at the site where the Mercedes-Benz was abandoned, it was discovered that one of the suspects attempted to set the vehicle on fire.”

“Additionally, one of the suspects was identified to have purchased airtime from a nearby tuck shop shortly after abandoning the vehicle. Investigations revealed that Sphamandla Ngcobo was the individual who recharged his cellphone using the purchased airtime.”
