The de-registration of Damelin, CityVarsity, Icesa City Campus, and Lyceum College is affecting at least 13,000 students.

The Department of Higher Education made this decision due to their failure to submit audited financial statements. These colleges, owned by private education provider Educor, face various allegations, including concerns about education quality and staff payment issues.

Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande stated that the colleges have until the year's end to phase out current students and are barred from admitting new ones. The department will assist affected students in finding alternative institutions to complete their studies.

Educor, as per its website, is the largest private education provider in Southern Africa.
