The no-confidence motion against the Speaker of the National Assembly will proceed, as Acting Speaker Lechesa Tsenoli has given approval.

The motion was initiated by DA Chief Whip Siviwe Gwarube last week, citing alleged improper conduct by Mapisa-Nqakula.

This move follows a raid on Mapisa-Nqakula's Johannesburg residence as part of an investigation into allegations of bribery from contractors during her tenure as Defence Minister.

Parliament's spokesperson, Moloto Mothapo, stated, "This proposal is in line with Section 54(2) of the Constitution," which allows for the removal of the Speaker or Deputy Speaker by a resolution passed with a majority of National Assembly members present.

Mapisa-Nqakula is contesting the legality of the search and seizure operation in court.
