Cristiano Ronaldo reached a milestone in his illustrious career by scoring his 900th goal on Thursday as Portugal defeated Croatia 2-1 in their UEFA Nations League opener at Estádio da Luz in Lisbon.

Ronaldo achieved this landmark with a goal in the 34th minute, converting a cross from Nuno Mendes. The goal, Ronaldo's 131st for Portugal, was met with an emotional celebration from the star.

Diogo Dalot had initially given Portugal the lead with an early goal, and Ronaldo's strike extended the advantage. However, a Dalot own-goal before halftime narrowed the gap for Croatia.

Portugal, alongside Poland and Scotland, are competing in Group A1 of the Nations League. The Portuguese team will face Scotland in Lisbon on Sunday.
