The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) has elected Mike Shingange as its new president, ushering in a new four-year term for the federation’s leadership.

Former president Zingiswa Losi has been elected as the federation’s new General Secretary.

Delegates broke into song and dance as the leadership results were announced, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the trade union federation.

Shingange will be joined by Susan Khumalo, who has been elected First Deputy President, while Mbali Blose takes up the position of Second Deputy President unopposed.

Gerald Twala has been elected Deputy General Secretary, while Khomotso Makhupola will serve as the federation’s National Treasurer.

The newly elected leadership will steer COSATU’s work over the next four years.
