Two people have been killed and two others are recovering in hospital following a shooting during what is believed to have been a robbery at a shop in central Durban.
Emergency services were called to a store on Prince Edward Street on Thursday night after reports of a robbery in progress.
ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson says three men were found at the scene with gunshot wounds.
He says all three were in a critical condition when paramedics arrived.
Jamieson says it is alleged that the shop owner was taken to a private hospital before emergency medical personnel reached the scene.
Paramedics stabilised the injured men before transporting them to different hospitals for further treatment. Two of the men were placed under police guard.
Jamieson says one of the suspected robbers and the person believed to be the shop owner later died from their injuries.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear.
“It's unknown at this stage what led up to the shooting. SAPS and Metro Police were at the scene and will be investigating further,” Jamieson said.
Police are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the suspected robbery and the shooting.
