A man wanted in connection with the murder of his wife has been arrested in Lamontville after allegedly attempting to evade police by running into traffic on the N2.
Police say officers from Lamontville SAPS spotted the suspect in the area on Tuesday and chased him on foot towards the freeway.
The man was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross the N2. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, including reports that he may have deliberately entered the traffic.
The suspect is wanted in connection with the murder of his 30-year-old wife, Phindile Zuma, who was allegedly stabbed to death inside the shack they shared last week.
Police say the alleged killing took place in the presence of the couple’s three-year-old son.
A neighbour reportedly went to the dwelling after hearing a commotion but was turned away by the suspect.
The man remained at the property until Sunday, when he allegedly left the dwelling.
The child then alerted neighbours, telling them that his mother was injured inside the shack.
Neighbours subsequently discovered Zuma’s decomposing body lying on a blood-stained floor.
It is believed that the child and the suspect may have remained inside the dwelling with Zuma’s body for several days.
The suspect was arrested by Lamontville SAPS detectives with assistance from Lamontville SAPS Vispol, PT Alarms, Blue Security and Fitama Protection Services.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Zuma’s death is continuing, and the suspect is expected to face murder-related charges.
