Eighteen people were injured following a collision between a bus and a truck on the N3 highway between the Tugela River and the Bergville Toll Plaza in the early hours of Monday, 29 June.
The crash caused significant disruption to the Johannesburg-bound carriageway after the bus, which was carrying 52 passengers, collided with a truck under circumstances that are still under investigation.
Emergency services confirmed that six people sustained serious injuries, while a further 12 suffered minor injuries. All injured passengers received on-site medical attention before being transported to nearby hospitals for further treatment.
Multiple emergency response teams, including RTI, KwaZulu-Natal Emergency Medical Services (EMS), SAPS, ER24, Dave’s Breakdown Services, N3 Toll Concession (N3TC) and other support units, were deployed to the scene.
Authorities remained on site conducting rescue and recovery operations, while also managing traffic flow and clearing the affected section of the highway.
Investigations into the cause of the collision are ongoing.
