Motorists and residents have been advised to prepare for a series of road closures in Durban on Sunday, 7 June 2026, as the city hosts the ISUZU IRONMAN 70.3 Durban event.
The sporting event is expected to attract thousands of athletes and spectators, with traffic disruptions anticipated between 05:00 and 14:00.
Authorities have announced several full road closures to accommodate the cycling and running routes.
The M4 Ruth First Highway will be closed in both directions from the M17/Sandile Thusi Road intersection to Umdloti at the M27/Main Road intersection.
Snell Parade will also be closed in both directions between the Suncoast/Battery Beach Road circle and the Sunkist/Country Club Beach circle.
In addition, the Suncoast-bound lane of Battery Beach Road between Masabalala Yengwa Avenue and the Suncoast/Snell Parade circle will be closed for the duration of the event.
Several partial lane closures will also be implemented from 05:00 to 14:00.
One city-bound lane on Masabalala Yengwa Avenue (M12) between Isaiah Ntshangase Drive and Battery Beach Road will be affected, while one N2-bound lane on Main Road (M27) over the M4/Umdloti intersection bridge will also be closed.
Residents of the Sibaya precinct will be permitted to cross the M4 via the Sibaya Circle connecting Heleza Boulevard and Sibaya Drive. The crossing point will be managed by Metro Police officers and event marshals to ensure the safe movement of traffic.
Authorities have recommended that motorists make use of the N2 as an alternative route where possible.
Road users are encouraged to plan their trips in advance, allow for additional travel time and consider alternative routes to minimise delays during the event.
Traffic officials have appealed to motorists to exercise patience and comply with all road signage and instructions from law enforcement officers deployed along the route.
