A 23-year-old suspect arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of a teenager in Mossel Bay is expected to appear in the local magistrate's court on Friday.
The suspect was arrested following the death of 18-year-old Nhlamulo Sambo, who was stabbed in the early hours of Sunday morning in the Kwanonqaba township.
The incident occurred amid recent unrest in the area, which has seen heightened tensions and outbreaks of violence.
However, Western Cape Deputy Police Commissioner Tebello Mosikili has clarified that Sambo's murder was not linked to the unrest involving alleged undocumented migrants.
Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the stabbing are continuing.
The violence in Kwanonqaba has resulted in widespread destruction and displacement. More than 50 informal structures were reportedly destroyed, leaving hundreds of residents without shelter following unrest that erupted after a community march.
The situation escalated further on Friday night when two Mozambican nationals were killed during the violence.
Law enforcement authorities remain deployed in the area as efforts continue to restore calm and prevent further incidents.
Police have urged residents to remain peaceful and allow investigations into the recent acts of violence to proceed.
The suspect is expected to face charges related to Sambo's death when he appears before the court.
