Motorists travelling on the N3 westbound between Westville and Paradise Valley are being advised of temporary overnight road closures linked to ongoing upgrade works in the area.

The closures form part of the South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) N3/M13 Paradise Valley interchange upgrade project, which includes the removal of bridge parapets.

According to SANRAL, the N3 westbound carriageway from Durban towards Pinetown will be fully closed at Exit 17 at the M13 Paradise Valley Interchange during the following periods:

  • Friday, 5 June 2026: 8pm to 4:30am on Saturday
  • Saturday, 6 June 2026: 8pm to 4:30am on Sunday
  • Sunday, 7 June 2026: 8pm to 4:30am on Monday

During the closures, traffic will be diverted via the M13 Paradise Valley off-ramp and redirected back onto the N3 through the M7 interchange on-ramp. Motorists may also continue along the M13 and rejoin the N3 at Key Ridge.

SANRAL has urged truck drivers and operators of heavy vehicles to delay trips where possible, use designated staging areas, and consider alternative routes such as the M7 or M19 to minimise congestion.

Public transport operators have also been encouraged to ensure drivers are informed about the closures and detour routes.

Authorities are advising motorists to plan their journeys in advance, leave earlier than usual, and expect delays in surrounding areas. Drivers are also urged to obey temporary road signs and reduced speed limits within construction zones.

SANRAL says the work forms part of long-term infrastructure upgrades aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving traffic flow along the busy transport corridor.
