The trial of 32-year-old Tiffany Meek, who is accused of killing her 11-year-old son, Jayden-Lee, is expected to resume in the Johannesburg High Court on Wednesday morning.
Meek faces multiple charges, including crimen injuria and attempting to defeat the ends of justice. The State has withdrawn a charge of child abuse, citing insufficient evidence.
Jayden-Lee’s body was found near a stairway at a residential complex in Fleurhof, where he lived with his mother. Prosecutors allege the child was struck with a blunt object. Blood believed to be his was reportedly found on his bed and school uniform, and investigators suspect the scene may have been staged to mislead authorities.
During her previous court appearance, Meek pleaded not guilty to all charges and denied any involvement in her son’s death or abuse.
She remains in custody after being denied bail, with the State indicating that witnesses are ready to testify as proceedings continue.
