Residents of Bongweni say they will continue to demand justice following the discovery of the body of a three-year-old boy who had been missing for several days.
The body of Nstikayethu Blukwe was found in a river on Tuesday afternoon after search and rescue teams had been looking for the toddler since he was reported missing last week.
The discovery has sparked anger and grief within the community, with some residents raising concerns about the child’s father. Community members have alleged that he has a history of abuse.
The child’s mother told eNCA that she is struggling to come to terms with the tragedy.
She said her husband had a long history of abusing her and that the couple had since separated.
According to the mother, she never reported the alleged abuse at the time, explaining that she remained silent out of love for him. She now says she is trying to process what has happened following the devastating loss of her child.
Police have not yet confirmed further details as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the toddler’s death continue.
