Two brothers accused of drug dealing and the possession of illegal firearms are expected to appear in the Umzinto Magistrate’s Court on Friday following their arrest on Thursday.

KwaZulu-Natal police allege the pair had been terrorising the local Umzinto community prior to their arrest.

According to SAPS provincial spokesperson Robert Netshiunda, officers secured a search warrant before conducting an operation at the suspects’ premises.

During the search, a 41-year-old suspect was found with a firearm concealed under the driver’s seat of his vehicle. Further searches inside his bedroom uncovered 46 rounds of ammunition of various calibres, including rounds suitable for an R5 rifle and a shotgun. Police also recovered another firearm and a pair of police-issued handcuffs.

The second suspect was allegedly found in possession of drugs. A search of his bedroom led to the discovery of additional drugs, a firearm and ammunition. Officers also seized an undisclosed amount of cash believed to be proceeds of crime.

Both men are expected to face charges related to drug dealing and the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition. Investigations are continuing.
