Despite the sharp drop in temperatures across the country, Eskom says the national power grid remains stable.

The power utility has announced plans to return 2,450 megawatts of generation capacity to service in the coming days, which is expected to further bolster grid reliability.

As more generating units come back online following long-term repairs, Eskom anticipates a decline in diesel usage at its open-cycle gas turbines.

The utility maintains its winter outlook, saying that load shedding will not be necessary as long as unplanned outages stay below the 13,000-megawatt threshold.

Eskom continues to monitor the system closely and has urged South Africans to continue using electricity efficiently during the colder months.
