A 33-year-old bus driver was tragically shot and killed in Westham, Phoenix, on Monday morning. According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), the shooting occurred around 5:30 a.m., prompting a swift response from security officers.

RUSA spokesperson Prema Balram confirmed that the officers arrived at the scene to find a white bus partially off the road, with the driver suffering multiple gunshot wounds. Tragically, the victim was pronounced dead before paramedics could arrive. Balram revealed that it is believed three occupants in a white Toyota Etios, whose registration is still unknown, fired on the bus before fleeing the scene.

At the time of the attack, there were no passengers aboard the bus. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and authorities are continuing their investigation. The South African Police Service (SAPS) has been approached for further updates.

In a separate incident, five men were brutally murdered in Inanda township on Friday morning. The victims, aged between 19 and 26, were found with multiple injuries near a school on a sports field. Police spokesperson Robert Nethsuinda indicated that the victims were allegedly kidnapped from their homes in Bambayi around midnight. Their bodies were discovered just after 6:30 a.m., with one victim found with a severed arm.

Later that day, 12 individuals, including a 70-year-old man, were arrested in connection with the killings. Police continue to investigate both incidents.
