The high-profile trial of Agnes Setshwantsho, accused of murdering family members to claim insurance payouts, is set to commence in January next year. Setshwantsho faces charges of murder, two counts of fraud, and defeating the ends of justice. She was arrested in Gauteng late last year.
After being denied bail by the Molopo Magistrate Court, the case was transferred to the North West High Court for trial.
Setshwantsho’s lawyer, Hlanhla Mahlangu, expressed relief that the trial would soon provide clarity on the matter. “At least now she will ventilate the issues that she wants to ventilate. At least now we will get some sense as to what is happening in this matter. As you would know, nobody is certain what transpired,” said Mahlangu.
Mahlangu also noted ongoing developments, including the potential exhumation of certain individuals, such as Setshwantsho’s late husband, which could provide further evidence. “We know that we have one charge of murder, two counts of fraud, and one count of defeating the ends of justice. At least we are making headway,” he added.
