Traffic on the R61 in Port Edward, on the south coast, has come to a halt following an obstruction at the uMtamvuna bridge, which is blocking access to the Eastern Cape. Reports indicate that the road is blocked by a combination of trucks and minibus taxis, though the cause of the closure remains unclear.
Sindi Msimang, spokesperson for the Road Traffic Inspectorate, confirmed that officers are on the scene. "The taxis have completely blocked the road, causing heavy motor vehicles to stack up at Oribi Toll Plaza," Msimang said.
As authorities work to resolve the situation, motorists are advised to seek alternative routes to avoid delays. The reason behind the closure is still under investigation.
