The Sol Plaatje Municipality's driver's licence testing station in Kimberley is closed today after a raid by the Road Traffic Management Corporation's anti-corruption unit and police, which led to the arrest of several officials.
Five individuals were taken into custody in the Northern Cape for allegedly issuing fraudulent driving licences.
Municipality spokesperson Thabo Mothibi confirmed that arrangements are being made to replace the arrested staff members. “Our motor registration centre will be closed while we work on staffing adjustments. We aim to have replacements for the functions previously carried out by the arrested officials. We expect to resume normal operations on Monday, providing the usual services to the public, including motor vehicle registrations and driver’s licence applications,” Mothibi stated.
The municipality is committed to ensuring the integrity of its services and addressing any misconduct within its ranks.
