Dashcam footage circulating on social media has captured the moment an e-hailing driver was allegedly ambushed and robbed by a group of men in Eldorado Park, Johannesburg.
The footage shows a female passenger attempting to grab the driver’s cellphone while a male accomplice reaches forward from the back seat and pulls the handbrake.
As the driver realises what is happening, he gets out of the vehicle and runs, apparently fearing for his safety.
A voice can then be heard shouting, “Shoot him, shoot him!” while one of the suspects appears to be holding a firearm and moving in the direction of the fleeing driver.
The footage begins with a woman entering the vehicle, seemingly after requesting an e-hailing ride. She greets the driver, who is holding his cellphone while it charges inside the car.
Shortly afterwards, another man enters through the rear door as the driver appears to be looking towards two other men standing outside the vehicle.
The woman then positions herself near the passenger door, seemingly preparing to exit, while one of the men opens the door to allow the other two to enter.
One of the men subsequently reaches forward from the back seat and pulls the handbrake, while the woman appears to attempt to snatch the driver’s cellphone before getting out of the vehicle.
After the driver flees, the footage shows two of the suspects returning to the car and searching through his belongings.
One of the men appears to inspect a wallet and searches around the driver’s seat. Another suspect later returns to the vehicle and seemingly takes additional items.
It remains unclear exactly what valuables were stolen during the incident.
The vehicle is left with both front doors open before another man approaches and closes them after the suspects have left.
The footage has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with some users calling for those involved to be identified and arrested.
The identities of the suspects and the circumstances surrounding the incident have not been independently verified.
