The City of Tshwane has temporarily closed the Station Square Licensing Centre in Akasia following developments in ongoing legal proceedings involving the premises.
The closure took effect on Monday and affects several services, including motor vehicle registration and licensing, driving licence renewals, driving licence card renewals and learner’s licence testing.
In a statement, Mayoral Committee Member for Roads and Transport Tlangi Mogale said the decision was prompted by developments in the litigation concerning the facility.
The City is renovating the Tshiamo Centre in Pretoria North to provide a permanent replacement for the affected services.
The renovations are expected to be completed by the end of November 2026, after which the City will finalise the necessary operational and regulatory requirements before the facility can open.
In the interim, residents who rely on the Station Square Licensing Centre have been advised to use other operational City of Tshwane licensing centres.
Mogale says the City’s priority is to establish the replacement facility as soon as possible while ensuring that all regulatory and operational requirements are met.
