National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola says uniting the South African Police Service (SAPS) and strengthening its institutional integrity will be among his key priorities as he resumes his duties.

Masemola officially returned to office following President Cyril Ramaphosa’s decision to lift his precautionary suspension after all financial misconduct charges against him were formally withdrawn.

Addressing the media on Monday for the first time since his suspension was lifted, Masemola said he was determined to strengthen the organisation and ensure it continued to fulfil its constitutional mandate.

“I return to office determined to unite the organisation, strengthen its institutional integrity and advance our constitutional responsibility to serve and protect the people of South Africa,” he said.

Masemola emphasised that his return was not about him as an individual, but about ensuring leadership continuity within the police service.

“It’s not about an individual; it’s about the responsibility entrusted for leadership continuity. The organisation SAPS is central to our democracy in the country,” he said.

His return comes as the police service continues to focus on maintaining public confidence and strengthening its role in protecting South Africans.
