An 18-year-old boy has died following an alleged mob justice attack in Rostock Village, outside Burgersfort in Limpopo on Sunday.
Police say the teenager was allegedly assaulted by members of the community after he was suspected of attempting to rob a spaza shop owned by a foreign national.
According to police, the victim was attacked with various objects, including sticks, stones and cables.
Police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba says officers on patrol were alerted to the incident after receiving a call from a local hospital about a male victim who had allegedly been assaulted.
The teenager’s family reportedly found him still alive at the scene and rushed him to hospital, where he died upon arrival.
Police have opened a murder case, and a manhunt is under way for the suspects.
Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers has condemned the alleged mob justice attack and urged community members not to take the law into their own hands.
