Manchester City secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, with second-half goals from Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki extending their perfect start to the Premier League season.

The victory came amid a turbulent week for City, who faced hostile chants and boos from Liverpool supporters following an independent commission's findings concerning alleged breaches of the Premier League's financial rules. The club has denied wrongdoing and appealed the verdict.

City weathered Liverpool's early pressure before taking control of the match after Ryan Gravenberch was sent off in the 62nd minute for a second yellow card following a foul on Doku.

Haaland opened the scoring three minutes later, firing past goalkeeper Alisson Becker after Doku's attempted shot was deflected into the Norwegian striker's path.

Doku doubled City's advantage in the 68th minute with a spectacular long-range effort that curled into the far top corner.

Cherki completed the scoring in the 78th minute, collecting a pass from Josko Gvardiol before calmly slotting the ball into the net.

Haaland described the victory as a special moment for the team, stressing the importance of unity during a challenging period.

Manchester City midfielder Elliot Anderson also praised the team's determination, saying the players had shown togetherness and fought for one another in a difficult atmosphere.

City manager Enzo Maresca acknowledged the hostility at Anfield, saying his side would need to learn to deal with the pressure they could face at away matches throughout the season.

Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola, meanwhile, expressed frustration with the refereeing, particularly Gravenberch's dismissal, arguing that the first yellow card was unwarranted.

Liverpool supporters continued to taunt City at the final whistle, chanting about the possibility of relegation as the financial case continues to cast uncertainty over the club's future.

The result gives City six wins from six league matches, leaving them on 18 points and three points clear of Arsenal at the top of the standings.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have dropped to ninth place after suffering their first league defeat of the season.

Maresca has also joined an exclusive group of managers to win their first six Premier League matches in charge of a club, following Pep Guardiola, Carlo Ancelotti and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Despite their impressive results on the pitch, questions remain over City's ongoing financial case, with the club's appeal leaving uncertainty surrounding the potential consequences of the commission's findings.
