The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has announced recalls affecting 879 vehicles across three brands, citing potential safety defects involving Audi Q3s, Hyundai Santa Fe hybrids and Hino 700 truck tractors.
The recalls cover 235 Audi Q3 vehicles, 162 Hyundai Santa Fe MX5 HEV vehicles and 482 Hino 700 truck tractors.
NCC spokesperson Phetho Ntaba has urged owners of the affected vehicles to contact their dealerships to arrange inspections and repairs where necessary.
Audi South Africa, a division of Volkswagen Group Africa, is recalling 235 Q3 vehicles sold nationally through authorised dealerships from 16 April 2026.
The defect involves the front seat belts, where the belt webbing may not have been correctly routed through the metal eyelet on the lap belt tensioner.
According to the NCC, this could result in the seat belt not being properly connected to the vehicle’s load-bearing structure, potentially compromising occupant safety in the event of a collision.
Hyundai Automotive South Africa is recalling 162 Santa Fe MX5 HEV vehicles sold through its dealership network in 2025.
The recall relates to a possible misalignment of the front seat belt’s snap-on anchor, which could affect the belt’s positioning and pose a safety risk to occupants.
Meanwhile, Toyota South Africa Motors is recalling 482 Hino 700 truck tractors sold through its dealer network between 17 April 2023 and 17 January 2025.
The NCC said the defect stems from a bolt fracture during the production-line assembly process. The fifth-wheel coupler securing bolts and mounting plate securing bolts may have fractured, potentially affecting the secure mounting of these components.
Owners of the affected vehicles are advised to contact their dealerships to establish whether their vehicles fall within the recall and to arrange the necessary inspections and repairs.
The commission has urged motorists and truck owners to respond to the recalls to ensure that potential safety defects are addressed.
