President Cyril Ramaphosa has assured the families of women murdered in Ekurhuleni that authorities will continue investigating the cases and will not allow them to go cold.
Addressing the nation on Tuesday, Ramaphosa said the government was bringing together available resources to establish what happened to the victims and identify those responsible for their deaths.
“To the families of the women who have been brutally killed, I say that these cases will not be allowed to go cold,” Ramaphosa said.
The President said authorities would continue providing updates as investigations progress, while ensuring that the integrity of the cases and the rights of those involved are protected.
Ramaphosa also urged members of the public with information about the killings to come forward.
“If you know something, say something,” he said.
He raised concerns about the number of missing-person cases reported to police, noting that only two of the women whose bodies were found in Ekurhuleni had been reported missing.
Ramaphosa stressed that families do not need to wait 24 hours before reporting a person missing.
“If you have reason to fear that something is wrong about any loved one, report it immediately,” he said.
The President’s remarks come amid growing concern over the discovery of women’s bodies in different parts of Ekurhuleni and renewed calls for stronger action to address gender-based violence and femicide.
