KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli has expressed his condolences to the families of 11 people who were killed in a mass shooting at KwaMakhutha, south of Durban, on Tuesday night.
Three other people were injured in the shooting in the Ziko area.
The Premier’s Office says a pregnant woman is among those killed.
The victims were part of a group of 14 people who had gathered at a house when three armed men allegedly entered the property and opened fire.
Ntuli is expected to visit the scene on Wednesday and meet with police, community representatives and the victims’ families.
Manhunt underway
KwaZulu-Natal police have launched a manhunt for the suspects.
Police say preliminary investigations indicate that the group was attending a gathering inside the house when the three men arrived and opened fire.
Police have also revealed that some of the victims were known to Crime Intelligence in connection with alleged illegal activities.
However, police say they cannot disclose further details at this stage, as doing so could compromise the ongoing investigation.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
